As noted in the AEB, August is traditionally not the most active month; however, further weakening of the ruble could stimulate the continued growth. Against the background of government support measures, the situation in the Russian car market and its development trends by the end of the year will become clearer in September, the association noted. According to the current forecast of the AEB, by the end of 2020, the Russian car market will decrease by 23.9% and reach 1 million 339 thousand cars, in case of the continued government support to stimulate consumer demand and the absence of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Leadership in the Russian car market is held by the LADA brand, its sales reached 28,621 vehicles in the previous month (-5%). The second place in terms of sales volume is kept by KIA - the sale of 19818 cars (+ 7%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai returned to the third place with an indicator of 17,462 sold cars, which is higher by 24% than a year ago.
Then Volkswagen follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 11,400 buyers (+ 34%). Renault finished the top-5 this time, with sales of 10,906 cars (-16%). The TOP-10 of the best-selling brands in August also included Skoda (9,001 units, + 28%), Toyota (7,132 units, -22%), GAZ (3,856 units, -27%), Nissan (3,852 units, -35%) and UAZ (2,910 units, -10%).
