Russian market of new electric cars grew 10 times in May

Residents of Russia bought 148 new electric vehicles. This is almost 10 times higher than in May of 2020 (15 units). At the same time, 60% of this volume fell on two models - Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron.

So, the electric car Porsche Taycan in the previous spring month was sold in the amount of 51 units. The Audi e-tron electric crossover is the second one in the model rating - it has sold 38 units. Recall that both models have been in the Russian market less than a year. The third place in the model ranking is occupied by Tesla Model 3 (20 units). Jaguar I-Pace (19 units) goes with a minimal lag behind it (only by 1 electric car).

In addition to them, Russians purchased 5 new Tesla Model X electric vehicles, other 5 units - Tesla Model Y, 4 - Nissan Leaf, 2 units each - Chevrolet Bolt and KIA Niro, 1 each - JAC iEV7S and Mercedes-Benz EQC in May 2021.

Almost 40% of the market of new electric cars belonged to Moscow (58 units), more than 12% - to St. Petersburg (18 units), about 10% - to the Moscow region (14 units) the last month. Sverdlovsk region, where 8 electric vehicles were purchased, and Krasnodar Territory (6 units) are the leaders of the non-capital regions by this indicator. In other 44 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, local residents purchased from 1 to 4 new electric vehicles.

The experts also noted that in general, since the beginning of the year, 650 new electric cars have been purchased in our country, which is 7 times higher than in January-May of 2020 (92 units).
