The leader in preferences among Russians is traditionally the domestic brand LADA - they bought about 16 thousand of these cars in the previous month, which is lower by 41% than in May of 2019. Korean brands Hyundai and KIA are the next; their sales were almost 8 thousand and 7 thousand units, respectively. At the same time, both demonstrate a market decline: KIA - by 51%, Hyundai - by 48%.
Besides them, the French Renault (5.2 thousand units; -49%) and Japanese Toyota (3.7 thousand units; -51%) were among the top-five of leading brands in the market of new passenger cars in Russia by the results of May.
According to experts of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, for 5 months the Russians bought 492 thousand passenger cars – lower by 17% than in January - May of 2019. Recall that the fall of the car market takes place against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent restrictive measures in the field of auto retail, which occurred in April and May.
