According to the German Automobile Industry Association (VDA), the continued decline in sales is due to massive restrictions on the public life and commercial activities of organizations as a part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. If, during the considering of the European car market we take into account Russia, then our country has risen to the second place in the European ranking.
According to preliminary estimates of the AUTOSTAT agency, sales of cars reached about 34 thousand units (excluding LCV) in the previous month. The third result among European car markets was shown by France with 20,997 cars (-88.8%). The United Kingdom is the next one, the result of which was 4,121 sold cars (-97.3%). As noted in the British Society of Automakers and Car Dealers (SMMT), this is the worst result since February of 1946. This time, Italy finished the top-five of European leaders, its dealers sold 4279 cars (-97.6%). As noted in the Italian Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ANFIA), the last two months have been a shock for the country's authorities, faced with an unprecedented situation due to the coronavirus pandemic. We also add that the Spanish car market in April crashed by 96.5% and reached 4,163 cars. As noted in the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC), this is the worst result for the last 20 years.
